I may be missing the point here, but is the Parish Council really the right body to be running a surgery, especially when we have a very good medical practice in the village. I know Ralph has many talents, but can he really treat my piles – and I'm not even sure I want to show them to him even if he is prepared to look!

Can anyone recommend a reliable local handyman? I need some fencing doing in my garden.

Sadly Scott, it's not a small number of people, that are increasingly concerned and frustrated. If "finding fault" with a public body for not disclosing financial information rate payers are entitled to see (when the PC are sat on £100,000 +), and when they are also not carrying out their LEGAL obligation to hold public meetings (or even publishing the minutes of the last one)- well yes, sadly I must be "nit picking". Or maybe it's because my late father was Chair of the APC for very many years, I have a sense that things are just not functioning as they normally should. I wouldn't dispute that some people may well be trying their best for this community, but codes of conduct and regulations do need to be adhered to, and and transparency is key.

Ashley asks what can be done about all the heavy traffic in Audlem, saying it must be illegal. I've been involved in local village groups looking at the problem, and unfortunately nothing can be done. Two A roads cross at Shropshire Street, and large heavy lorries are quite entitled to use both. The A525 (Woore – Whitchurch) was a primary route until a few years ago, but was then deprimed, meaning it won't be provided as a route on satnavs aimed at HGVs. But that's it. We have to live with the heavy traffic.

Ashley, You think it's the worst that you've ever come across, well let me tell you, 'you ain't seen nothing yet' Wait till the new wedding venue opens up on Monks Lane. 7 days a week events with all of the traffic that an events business like this generates and all this new traffic yet to add to the Audlem congestion.
There is also a new (pending planning permission) road currently being cut through a field off the A529 just as you leave Audlem and before Hankelow. The land owner is increasing the wagon loads of industrial building waste that he is processing. You may notice the utter disgrace and damage that this activity has already caused. Not to mention the totally ignored council stop order that was slapped on the land owner, he just carries on. The size of these wagons are massive and upwards of 60 loads per day coming our way. Like I said earlier, 'you ain't seen nothing yet'

I have no problem in telling you that the traffic issue in Audlem ranks as the worst I've ever come across.
Huge tonnage negotiating through a village must surely be illegal?

Fair enough, local Government has never been a hotbed of common sense and efficiency, but is someone going to deal with this?

What a great idea having Parish Council Surgeries – perhaps this way I can get a response to the emails I have recently sent (but go unacknowledged/ unresponded to) about their current financial position. However I seem to have missed their recent public Parish Council meeting where this action was discussed and voted on- could anyone enlighten me when this took place ?

Despite being reported to CEC Highways on Monday, there is not yet any warning to road users in place. The surface of the southbound lane is collapsing into the brook due being undermined after lack of maintenance by the landowner.

Helloooo. Does anyone know of a B&B in or, very near to the Village please, or ideally, IN Green Lane? I have rang a local B&B but they told me they don't do B&B despite having a sign outside saying B&B. But, to be fair, it says Oxo on the sides of Buses but they don't sell it.

Having spent yet another night 'sleeping on it' I asked myself will the car park solve the solution of 'ILLEGAL PARKING ? I arrived at – a) if the answer is 'Yes' then we should go ahead with it but if the answer was 'No' then why bother. Looks as if I am up for many more nights of 'sleeping on it'
This 'is it on or is it off' scenario is becoming more unpredictable than the weather – a vote was made years back perhaps best put it in the 'unsolved crimes bin', move on and save a lot of wasted time and money.
However I did come up with an alternative solution – Make 'illegal parking' a car crushable offence. Perhaps the time of Parish Council and ourselves the 'villagers' would be better spent lobbying Parliament for it and it would be a cheaper alternative all round.
Colin , this could well become the theme for next years pantomime – any title suggestions, lets put a bit of humour back into chatbox.

How can they call a meeting asking for a mandate on turnpike field car park when there has been no obligatory council meeting .
Only four councillors hardly democratic !!

Population of Audlem just under 2000 at 2011 Census against a MAXIMUM licenced capacity of Audlem Town Hall (in the unlikely event of a full house for this meeting) 200 people. What kind of democratic process is this ? It's a pity the meeting was not not discussed with the PC appointed Turnpike Field Working Group – but again democracy seems to be out of favour with the 4 councillors actively left serving on the present Parish Council. What is the point of voting on something the village has already agreed to support ? Do they want us to keep voting until they get a different answer ? I'm all for keeping the public informed – that is the only bit that actually does make sense – but why do we need a separate meeting to the Village Meeting, incurring extra expense ?

I am shocked that the Parish Council is calling a public meeting to ask villagers to vote again on the provision of a car park at the top end of Turnpike Field. I cannot understand why, bearing in mind that the villagers endorsed the provision of such a car park when previously asked, and the purchase of Turnpike Field was a direct result. It is wrong to ask villagers to vote again – what right has the PC to ignore the vote three years ago? Is the PC hoping that they can ignore the wishes of the electorate as previously clearly expressed? If so, that is undemocratic. One cannot keep going back till one gets the answer one wants.
I would contend that the forthcoming public meeting should start from the fact that the proposal to construct the car park is a fait accompli (i.e. the car park will be provided), and the PC should now keep itself to practical matters related to how it will be done, materials, cost etc.
With that in mind, I agree with Mr Leeson on Chatbox that we need more information about the car park, in writing, and in advance of the meeting, to allow there to be informed discussion.
Finally, if the PC decides not to go ahead with the car park, it should immediately put Turnpike Field up for sale, as the majority of those voting last time put a car park as their reason for approving its purchase. The PC will be acting outside its authority if the car park proposal is dropped, but still retains the land.

I will release a statement closer to the meeting with as much information as I can regarding the car park. As well as that At the meeting members of both the council and working group will be there to explain everything and answer all questions they are able to

Turnpike Field Car Park – UPDATE

It is good to read in AoL this morning that the PC is inviting villagers to attend a public meeting 30/03/2022 to vote on your proposal and continue with the construction of the Turnpike Field Car Park.
In preparation for this public meeting, can you please provide AoL a summary project plan?
And, What exactly are your proposals?

This would enable the attendees to be up-to-date and prepared with suitable questions at the meeting.

Re news article and public meeting – I trust full information from the Parish Council will be made available to all village people prior to any vote being taken. Many villagers may not be able to attend the meeting, will these people get the opportunity to register their vote or will it be carried solely by those attending the meeting.
The costs involved will be being paid by all villagers not just those who were able to attend the meeting. Also will people living outside of the village boundary be allowed to vote ?

I have just returned from a walk along the canal. On reaching The Bridge I saw a young lad, about 10 or 12, pulling up daffodils and smashing their heads against a tree. I told him to stop and was subject to a torrent of abuse. The village is particularly attractive at this time of year. What a shame that someone has to indulge in mindless vandalism
