Peter Morgan on Tabley Homes development

9th May 2022 @ 2:16pm

I recall that site being flooded for nearly twelve months some decades ago, when the drain that takes the water off it, blocked, down towards the bottom of the small valley to the east. There are several drainage chambers on the site that tell of it's past. Will Tabley Homes be installing a new, substantial drainage system, in the manner that the Anwyl Estate provided for it's site, to ensure that the extensive surface water that will arise from its development, will not prove a nightmare for the new residents?

JOY HARGREAVES on Food crisis

9th May 2022 @ 12:42pm

Peter Morgan speaks a lot of truth re the UK's food crisis. It is a subject we talk about most days. Last week I was outside a shop in Market Drayton when a gentleman started talking about the very same subject. He asked if I was aware that some of the large airline companies were buying up farms and farm land to help off-set their carbon footprint. Their idea is to plant thousands of trees on what was formerly good, food producing land, so giving people who purchase their airline tickets the idea that their flight is carbon friendly. The reality of so much land being taken out of food production is quite alarming on top of the fact that we are a heavily populated island, relying on food imports from overseas.

Ann Tilling on Taxi sevice

8th May 2022 @ 6:33pm

If the need for a taxi is to attend a medical appointment then ADCA, or possibly ADAS as I get my acronyms muddled, do run a voluntary service. I used to be an occasional driver but do not kn ow if it is still operating.
Hope this helps.

Bruce Mantle on Green Lane closure

8th May 2022 @ 3:02pm

Has the scheduled closure of the stretch of Green Lane (A529) in Cheshire north to Audlem gone ahead as per news item on 7th April?

Peter Silvester on Canal path fence damage

7th May 2022 @ 8:10pm

Further to Dave Martin's concern over how long it will take to repair the gate by the canal bridge, we brought the "temporary" plastic barriers by the canal bridge to CRT's attention 6-9 months ago, when the wooden fence was broken there. The fence is now broken or life-expired in many more places down to the wharf, and is dangerous, with nails sticking out. But nothing gets done, in spite of email reminders from us that don't even get a response! And don't let me start on the unkempt nature of the grass and the shrubbery bed near the wharf. The whole area is a mess. This canal corridor is a major tourist entrance to Audlem, just like the roads, and used to be seen by CRT's predecessors British Waterways as one of its national 'honeypot' sites.

Peter Silvester on Taxi sevice

6th May 2022 @ 10:36pm

We often get asked at Audlem Mill by visitors to Audlem who want a taxi. We don't know of one (there were a couple some years ago), and advise that you would need to call a taxi from Nantwich or Market Drayton – which will add significatly to the cost. If you want to travel reasonably locally, you could contact the Go-Too bus at http://www.go-too.co.uk/home.aspx or 0300 123 5103 (Mon – Fri 9.00 – 5.00). The cost is very much less than a taxi.

Geraint Davies on Covid Booster

6th May 2022 @ 12:29pm

Going "on-line" to book for something is not my default option and I avoid it whenever I can. So when I saw that there was a drop-in vaccination clinic in Nantwich this Thurs from 1.30 – 3.30pm I thought 'That's the easy/lazy option for me'. We turned up early at 1.20 so that we wouldnt have to wait, I thought, only to find a close packed queue that stretched from the Parish Hall by the church, up the length of the old cemetary and round the corner as far as Holland & Barrett.
We came home and I logged on to "Covid-19 vaccination National Booking System" and immediately got a booking in Crewe for Monday at 10.30 and 10.35am for Sue and myself. I then immediately got an email confirming the bookings, and this morning (Fri) had a further email reminder. WHAT AN EFFICIENT SERVICE! – You don't need to stand for hours in a queue. If I can do it anyone can!

Dave Martin on Canal path fence damage

6th May 2022 @ 8:11am

Before the buck is passed around by Canal & River Trust, it should be remembered that the damage to the gatepost was originally caused by their contractor's mini-digger in the winter of 2017 whilst doing lock repairs. CRT then installed the high-tech gate latch solution of looped rope, and so it has been ever since. Of course, the load on the rope has gradually ruined the fence. Past experience of "cosmetic" repairs (remember the 6 years to repair the wall by lock 7) means don't hold your breath for this one.

Chris Lewis on Spring Award

4th May 2022 @ 12:24pm

I was interested in Adrian's spring award post. In particular his naming of Lady's tresses. In Kent and Sussex this plant used to,grow in profusion and was one of the earliest to flower. but was always called Milkmaids flower and usually coincided with the spring turnout of Dairy cows.

Firstly, I'd like to thank Alex Titchener and company for making me so welcome at my first session of this newly formed group. I really enjoyed meeting you all and am looking forward to future sessions and getting to know you all even better.

I'm fairly new to the village and this allowed me to get some exercise, not too strenuous mind, and make new friends.

Come along and give it a try. I can heartily recommend it to all.
