Billy Gibbons on Green Lane lights

16th July 2022 @ 8:41am

The work that's been done in Green Lane recently has been superb (pavement and Brook work) but.....wait for it.....what's with the traffic lights? Maybe they're in competition with the Adderley ones perhaps? Or, possibly it's to give the Green Lane Dragstrip a more realistic feel and a fair chance for everyone off the Start Line.
But seriously though..why are they there? I realise if theres work going on the workers need to be protected but since they've been up, no work has been carried out. Mind you, it's not like they're costing any money to be there.........oh, hold on a minute..... ;-(

Peter Morgan on The dreaded bonfire

13th July 2022 @ 5:03pm

Visiting my son and daughter in Law earlier this afternoon at Nantwich Road, Wistaston, I notice smoke blowing across the road from behind the houses where they live. I park up and see a fire appliance turning into the farm entrance two houses further up. As I once insured these premises in my NFU days, I go around the back of the farmyard to assess the risk to the adjacent houses, as the wind is blowing toward them. The field at the rear is well alight, close by a tractor stands smouldering, and the fire crew are struggling to contain the spread. A pile of logs was burning adjacent to a tall, corrugated steel fence. Fortunately, my son's property is protected by a twelve foot high barrier of wrapped silage bales. The neighbours' hedges do not have that protection. I see the owner and I enquire what started it, expecting it to be the tractor shorting out as they sometimes do. He replied that he had lit a small bonfire that morning, had watched it burn out and thought all was well...
As we walked back towards the farm house a car tyre, which was one of several leaning up against the steel fencing adjacent to the burning logs, was also alight. We rapidly pulled them away and put out the flames. A second appliance arrives as I take my leave and the farmer assures me that he has no gas bottles stored on the premises.
The message is clear, in weather conditions like we have at the present time, you cannot contain a bonfire, even if it is within a steel container and if you barbecue with charcoal, don't dispose of the ashes until you are absolutely sure that they are cold. How can you be sure that they are cold? Just ask your partner to carefully push their fingers deep into the ashes, it never fails. But if you don't duck in time, let me know which ward you are on for the card!

Judy Evans on Will Audlem go dry?

Suzie Warren on Will Audlem go dry?

13th July 2022 @ 6:50am

This is a very serious and disturbing situation. So, huge thanks to the Webteam for providing us with the facts to quell the rumours ... and if the rumours become fact – for providing us with solutions. Excellent service, as always.

Daniel Sargeant on Pet Sitter?

12th July 2022 @ 3:49pm

Can anyone please recommend a local pet sitter who can check in on our cat and water our plants while we are away? She doesn't get on well with catteries.
Happy to pay of course
Many thanks

Bruce Mantle on BEWARE SINKHOLE!!

8th July 2022 @ 1:49pm

I was very sorry to hear of the injuries sustained by the two cyclists because of the 'sinkhole', and that as a result they've both had to cancel their walking holidays.
I assume that they're aware that they can claim compensation for any damage to their bikes and also possibly for personal injury caused by CE Highways' failure to maintain the highway to a satisfactory standard.
I've previously claimed successfully for a tyre that deflated instaneously after I drove at night into a deep pothole fiiled with water near Aston.
My understanding is that CEC & other councils have insurance to cover claims like mine.

Billy Gibbons on Is it my imagination

I nominate you, Terry, as my Showbiz Agent! You'll have to give me time to figure out what I can actually do in the biz they call show but....rest assured..as soon as I find out whatever it is I can do, you'll be the second to know. Obviously, I'll be the first to know but what with my memory not being as good as my forgetory these days....I will probably have forgotton to remember to tell you what I can't remember to let you know what I can't remember to tell you what it is I can do.
Remember Leslie Welch (29 December 1907 – 8 February 1980)? No..........nor me.

Oh but Billy you certainly are a celebrity around these parts, almost as famous as the Paddock Lane pothole so beloved of Colin. Indeed if you fell into said pothole you'd be well within your rights to shout "I'm a celebrity, get me out of here".

Jenny Frank on Nick Smith on Green Lane

Green Lane is open right the way along. There are temporary traffic lights at the top by the bridge just before the 30 mph sign.
