Michael Cookson on Carpenter

12th July 2021 @ 1:41pm

We can recommend Lee Welch. He has done several carpentry jobs for us, windows, doors, shelving and a bespoke radiator cover. He is a very nice young man, a little shy.
His phone no is 07881 284641

Billy Gibbons on Main Street Parking

12th July 2021 @ 1:16pm

As I've said before; double yellow lines means precisely nothing to a lot of our (non disabled) local drivers. However; a fine and a drivers education course might hit home a bit harder. A few points on their licence thrown in for good measure may also make them think. But....it's not going to happen, is it.

Does anyone know anyone locally, they could recommend, to replace/repair a stiff mixer valve.

Jan Campbell on stove service

Can anyone recommend someone who could service a woodburning / multi fuel stove please?

David on Main Street Parking

11th July 2021 @ 3:48pm

Hi/

Unfortunately this old one rears its ugly head once again.,
We do know we need vehicular access for emergency vehicles at any time.
Other than that parking such as this is selfish dangerous and it is also against the Law of the Land
Reg number deleted this time it may not be again.

there is no way of getting this image to you

Audlem Running Group on Audlem Running Club

9th July 2021 @ 11:15am

Hi Jude,

Thanks for your interest in the running group.

We'd love to have you come along and join us. We meet every Saturday at 8:20 ish on the main village car park, for an 8:30 start.

We tend to run between 5 and 6 miles with a nice mixture of paces, and the people at the front will double back to make sure no one is left behind.

There is a group going out on Saturday the 10th who would happily welcome you along.

Bruce Mantle on Speeding and tractors

9th July 2021 @ 9:43am

Joy Hargreaves has given a detailed description of the pressures currently facing the agricultural industry. As someone who has never worked in that industry I found that interesting and useful.
However, Joy has failed to address the detailed circumstances of the incidents which prompted Beryl Cole and Susan Batchellor to submit their posts to Chatbox. In Beryl's case she was walking along a pavement when she encountered a tractor and muck spreader that was chucking out mud and other material. Fortunately none of it hit her. In Susan and her husband's case Susan states'....we were driving out of the village recently on Cheshire Street towards Nantwich and were forced to come to an emergency stop by a huge green tractor with an equally huge trailer attached that came onto our side of the road at full pelt to overtake parked cars on his side by the girl guide building. There were people walking on the pavement on our passenger side so we were left with nowhere to go and literally inches to spare as he sped off! My husband tried to get the number plate but there wasn't one attached to the huge trailer and the driver was gone in seconds, this left us shocked and upset.'
It is noteworthy that in both cases there was no readable number plate. In one case there was no number plate at all on the back of the trailer and in the other it was unreadable because covered with mud. Both are of course offences.
It is necessary to repeat these details because the responses from Paul Cawood and Joy Hargreaves have been quite defensive, as though the posters were generalising about all local tractor drivers when quite clearly they were not, as a reading of what they actually wrote makes clear.
Joy Hargreaves has stated that 'WE ALL NEED OUR FOOD'. This statement, especially in capitals, is hardly necessary. Let me offer another truism: we all need to be able to to walk along a pavement or drive on the public highway without having our safety threatened by the no doubt small minority of irresponsible drivers of very large modern tractors and trailers.
Finally, Joy Hargeaves has suggested that if we meet tractors on the lanes we should offer to pull in. Unfortunately this is not always possible, especially after any prolonged periods of wet weather when in some cases the verges have been churned up by very large tractors and lorries.

tim elliott on Planning Application 21/3505N

9th July 2021 @ 8:45am

I think there are 2 major issues with this application. Firstly the noise. Its known noise in the open travels miles at night and the proposal is a marquee for 200-300 people. The plans discuss Noise in 1 short paragraph so basically no assessment at all. The venue is 200m to Corbrook Court as the adjoining field so not good for the care residents. Its 400m to the Anwyl estate, and 500m to the edge of audlem along heathfield road which is built up (fields between venue and audlem hence zero sound protection). The plans are Weddings every day of the week until 1am (12pm music). I have lived about 2.5miles away from a wedding venue and you could hear the music every weekend. I genuinely believe this is something which will affect the whole village and a great concern which will impact people's enjoyment of either sitting in gardens in summer or having to close windows at night in order to sleep.

2nd traffic on the road. The only access is from opposite the school entrance onto monks lane which is where a lot of children walk to school so for weddings during the week in the afternoon there will be a clash and a danger to children. If you approach audlem from Woore, Google maps suggests going up along heathfield road (from the south) past the school, which everyone knows in audlem is not a suitable road for constant traffic as well as very narrow going past the school. For those that use Monks lane, its a nice narrow quiet lane for walking, dog walking, cycling (I do with my kids). There is no chance I would use that road any longer as it would be too dangerous if this went ahead.

I just think any minor benefit which Audlem gets is outweighed by these issues which would impact the village for ever more.

David Sandiford on Planning Application 21/3505N

9th July 2021 @ 8:36am

Chris, the most effective way for any concerned resident to register concerns/objections is to go to the Cheshire East planning site. It's very easy: or google Cheshire East Planning – follow 'View and comment on current planning applications' – and search 21/3505N. There you can see the plans that have been submitted by scrolling down and clicking on 'Plans and Documents' and then click on each document in turn ( you can also see 'Applicant Details' plus 'Consultees and Neighbours'). To comment you just click on the link in the yellow box on the right hand side 'Comment on this Application'.

On noise/environmental health: concerned residents can e mail their views direct: environmentalprotection2@cheshireeast.gov.uk.

Any resident with concerns really should do both.

Mike Hancock on Speeding and tractors

9th July 2021 @ 7:08am

Good point Sion. Another point I'd like to make to add some balance is that not all tractor drivers are racing through the village against the clock. Many are patient and courteous.

On a walk this week on Monks Lane, a farmer was doing a massively valuable job in these parts and trimming the hedgerows. (Imagine having to wait for Cheshire East to do such a job?). While we were happy to wait for him to complete his task, he took it on himself to stop what he was doing, reverse the tractor some distance into a space and wait for us to walk past. Polite waves all round followed.

In my experience having lived here some 20 years, most of the danger in this village comes from speeding Chelsea tractors rather than actual ones.

Peter Morgan on Renovation of the old Audlem Post Office

8th July 2021 @ 11:35pm

Just like to congratulate the Parker family and their builders on the excellent refurbishment of the post office and grounds. The quality of the work and design in this important location adjoining St James church, is of great benefit to the central conservation zone of the village and will be a lasting tribute to them for generations to come.

Peter Morgan on Speeding and tractors

8th July 2021 @ 11:34pm

Joy Hargreaves on Speeding Tractors and, 'We all need our food'.

Whilst I agree with you Joy, you must remember that a majority of the electorate thought that a larder full of sovereignty was more important than one full of food, especially the farming community. But the good news is that there will be another election, unless our outstanding PM and his team change the rules and that can never be ruled out...

Chris Greaves on Planning Application 21/3505N

8th July 2021 @ 9:08pm

Not sure that Monk's Lane is a suitable place for a wedding venue. Not only will there be a traffic problem down a one track lane but there will be an effect on the local wildlife and the dairy farm that's on site. I think the fashion at the moment is to have fireworks at weddings. If this happens then the owls, bats and other animals will soon disappear. The dairy cows at the farm which never go outdoors will also be affected. Just hope someone starts a petition to make sure this development never happens

Louisa Evans on Thankyou Rachel Bailey

8th July 2021 @ 7:19pm

I want to thank Councillor Bailey for her proactivity and support in dealing with a recent problem. It's great to see a local politician who makes time for people, who reacts to issues raised on AOL without prompting, who understand local issues and people and makes things happen!

Siôn Price on Speeding and tractors

8th July 2021 @ 7:14pm

"Times have changed" said an earlier poster rather ominously whilst stating with absolute certainty that the vast majority of the village are not employed in the agricultural community. Can I suggest you think a little wider than "Farmer".
Within my friends and neighbours there is a Top Cheese Maker (you know who you are), Farm Advisors (3 living on the same street if you include me), HR specialist in a major local yoghurt company, warehouseman in another very local cheesmaker, banker (specialism Farms), Delivery driver....I could go on and on.
How many machinery and Dairy supply businesses are there locally supporting agriculture? Have a proper look in the business parks of Whitchurch, Market Drayton or Nantwich. You will find a wide community of local agricultural companies.
These local employers as well as the larger major food companies are not here by accident. They are an extension of the agricutural community into which we were either born – or in my case have chosen to live.

Thanks.

Debbie Ruscoe-Icke on eucalyptus

8th July 2021 @ 3:41pm

I wonder if anyone can help in the village? I am looking for some eucalyptus to use to decorate Audlem St James's Church on the 9th August, the flower markets are not guaranteeing the quality of it and wondered if anyone has any growing in there garden which may need a prune. Please get in touch at ruscoeicke@aol.com if you can possibly help. Many thanks.

Joy Hargreaves on Speeding and tractors

8th July 2021 @ 7:45am

I thoroughly agree that agricultural vehicles should not be driven dangerously on any road, through villages or along the lanes. Like cars and lorries, they can be killing machines. Very often, field work has to be done before the rain arrives so there is the sense of urgency as farm staff consult the weather information hourly. There is a huge span of elderly farmers all due for retirement and it is hoped that the younger generation can fill their spaces. Recruiting farm staff is at the moment extremely difficult and we hear all the time that vacant jobs cannot be filled. "Can't get the staff" is a familiar grumble. Like the HGV companies, we have friends who have numerous lorries standing still in their yards, having full order books but no HGV drivers to get the chilled food to the supermarkets. This has never happened before. Lorries which are on lease hire have to be paid for but with no drivers it is a real dilemma and this results in
supermarkets are waiting for supplies. A similar thing is happening in the farming industry – dairy men are struggling to get milking staff, fruit growers are short of pickers and so it goes on. Please give the boys in their tractors a little consideration. Don't curse them, yes, they need to drive safely but they ARE getting your food from the fields to HQ's. If you meet them on the lanes, offer to pull in with a smile on your face, WE ALL NEED OUR FOOD.

Evelyn Goodbody on Speeding traffic

7th July 2021 @ 4:21pm

@Paul Cawood
Susan Bachelor, Andrew Carr and Beryl Cole have taken time to write on AOL of their concerns and recent experiences ref to Speeding Traffic passing through Audlem village.

You wrote 'We live in a village that thrives because of the agricultural community and those of us that work in it. It's sad that the normal movement of tractors and spreaders is perceived as being a threat'.

I note that you work in the agricultural community – I can assure that the vast majority of Audlem residents do not work in the agricultural community. Times have changed.

As you are an Audlem Parish Councillor, are your comments on this topic shared by the rest of the Audlem Parish Council?

Thanks

david sandiford on Planning Application 21/3505N

7th July 2021 @ 11:46am

Sorry – should have added, again hopefully to assist.
The agent named on the application indicates that my noise concerns are nothing to do with the planning and are to be taken up with licensing. Enquiries with Cheshire East licensing suggest no license has yet been applied for but often a planning application will come first and if successful will be followed by the licensing application.
