Just wanted to say a big thank you to a man in Turnpike Field this afternoon. Unfortunately I do not know his name. I was walking back from a walk when I felt my diabetes start to affect me. I sat on a bench trying to get myself together but was feeling faint. This man came over to me as he could see I was struggling and asked if I was OK he sat with me for a good 10 mins then helped me off the field. All I know is his lovely dog was called Stan.
I would be very grateful if anyone could recommend a local builder to carry out some work in an outbuilding. Thank you.
William, WHS Roofing and Guttering Services, was doing a job for my sister in Audlem and she mentioned that I had leaking guttering.
William called on his way home, sent me a quote the next day and completed the job the day after.
He was polite, professional and did an excellent job.
I was extremely impressed with his efficiency and would highly recommend him.
Mike, the Parish Council actually own Turnpike on behalf of the residents of Audlem, who in turn are paying the loan off through the Precept payments that that are collected from the parishioners in their actual council tax bill. So yes the People of Audlem are paying for it whilst the Parish Council manage it and are the name on the ownership deeds.
I would leave any monitoring of parking until charges start for the public hall car park!
Williams contact number is 07526 563723€
Before we get all excited about the level of parking on Turnpike it would be nice to know how many days a year we are actually allowed to park on it??
It has been reported that Audlem PC owns Turnpike.
I thought that the people of Audlem were the owners since these were the purchasers.
Am I wrong?
AOL has several recommendations for William at WHS roofing & guttering. Does anyone have his contact details, please?
Geraint,
I suppose the obvious people to institute a proper monitoring exercise are the Audlem Parish Council. They do after all own the field. If they do not have sufficint resouces nor can attract volunteers they can put it out to companies who specialise in such actvity. But before and lasting decisions are made it is essential to actually be aware of the potential usage not some opinionated guess work

Chris Lewis' suggestion of having the use of Turnpike Field parking "monitored properly", rigorously noting which days it is most used and how different weather conditions may affect its use etc. seems to be a good idea. Such details would surely be useful in future decision making.
Does Chris have any suggestions of how this should be organised – and by whom?
Who does he have in mind to actually take it on?
It was good to see several cars parked on TPf this morning. One visitor from Market Drayton commented how convenient it was to browse the Charity shop and the ADAPT market. This leads me to wonder how many cars actually park on the field from 9 to 5 The odd count now and then cannt really give any indication, particularly as many will only park for a comparatively short time. To monitor its use properly the total number of different cars present on the field during the whiole day should be counted . To make this a real accurate monitoring exercise different days and weather conditions should be part of the exercise. This would provide a real indication of the potential usage of TPf as a car park. Probably too dificult to be undertaken so once again opinion rather than hard facts will decide its fate

Is it possible to update the APC website. ? Its still listing Councillors who have resigned and there is still no date yet announced for a Village meeting to discuss and agree or not the proposal that Cheshire East put to the Council early August regarding the Car Park. I know the Clerk too has resigned for personal reasons, and there are only four Councillors left, but the village should be updated as to what is happening.
Go too bus is far from a good option ,within the last week my son has had the time brought forward by an hour , had one leave without him for a dentist appt when the warning of 5 mins never arrived and it just messaged to say it was there and then left within 2 minutes , the return one also ran early (he was super early on that one ) and now cancelled at the very last minute this morning due to bus / driver shortages – absolutely hopeless service . We've phoned and complained twice and had money back . I really hope a scheduled service returns – this is not fit for purpose ! Appts get missed because it cannot be relied upon to do what it says !
APC Announcement.
Turnpike Field Parking.
Parking will be available this Friday (21st) and Saturday (22nd) September, on the area left of the main entrance off Green Lane, again on a trial basis.
APC are entitled to open the area for a set number of days per calendar year and feel, while the weather permits we use these days when suitable.
No overnight parking is permitted and when parking, all owners should be mindful of pedestrians and wildlfe.
Parking is at Owners Own Risk. APC bear no liability for any damages.
Thank You
Audlem Parish Council.
Being in my mid seventies, living near Adderley and able to drive, I use to love driving to Audlem with a view to do some shopping, a short canal walk and perhaps a coffee afterwards. However, with all the parking difficulties, I have not done this for over a year. Begrudgingly, I now shop at Market Drayton.
It would be so lovely to be able to park on the Turnpike field, maybe two or three days in the week and once more enjoy and support the businesses in Audlem. I hope one day this will be possible.
I totally agree with Judy. We need to make this happen
Absolutely Judy, we couldn't agree more! Keeping our village alive and thriving depends on projects exactly like this--developing a green parking area on Turnpike Field. It's a fantastic way to blend practical needs with sustainability, ensuring we preserve the natural beauty and integrity of our community whilst encouraging visitors and supporting local businesses. Initiatives like this help maintain the vibrant and connected spirit of our village for generations to come. Let's move forward together supporting APC and keep our village flourishing! Cheshire East, you might think we're just a dot on the map, but even the smallest dots know how to make a big point!
I dont really have much of an opinion on the Turnpike field apart from to say I guess it is okay for larger events where people are quite happy to walk.
Its a pity there wasnt a stipulation when the new estate was built that a new fire station was to be built as well. The old fire station land would have made a great spot for quick parking in the centre of the village.
An informal three day trial, when no directional sign were employed, is hardly an acid test of potential car park use !? As the previous poster observes it is well used for weddings & events, so there is absolutely no reason to be pessimistic (unless the reason you don't want it is due to NIMBY-ism perhaps ?). The installation of a (green) car park will be critical to the survival of our village businesses and leisure facilities. I accept that if your use of these village amenities is already limited, then you may not care – but there are plenty of people who DO care, and potentially even rely on them. It is sad to see that some residents cannot grasp the link between being able to park easily and the ongoing viability of the local leisure clubs, shops, services and eatries. If Audlem is to avoid becoming yet another dormitory settlement, a new car park must be its first priority. Whatever else may have gone on, past & present APCs should receive due credit for this project.
I agree with Geoff's message – i.e. monitor use of the Turnpike Field car park, and the community to consider investing into the field when and if and how required, and not irrespectively.
I also think that Carl Dovey's initiative of allowing 'restricted' parking in Turnpike field should be maintained, and I would add communicated to those responsible in CE of adding car park charges to the Audlem car park.
I congratulate APC on opening Turnpike Field for informal parking and realise that when it is very wet it has to be closed.
I have monitored the use of the field when it has been open and there has never been more than a couple of cars using the facility. I realise over time usage may increase but there will never many cars using the field. I therefore question why PCC should even consider a more permanent facility especially as costs seem to be over £100,000. A lot to spend on an underused white elephant!
Surely the solution is to open the field on an informal basis between 9.00-5.00pm for what will be a few cars and then open it fully for special events, major funerals etc as needed. This way we reduce the cost to local residents as the Parish Council precept will not increase – our precept is already one of the highest in Cheshire.
APC Notice
Due to the heavy rainfall in the past 24 Hrs, Turnpike Field Car parking is suspended until further notice.
Of course we will update asap
Thank You
Audlem Parish Council
There are lots of good places locally but a couple of our favourites are The Tearoom at No 11 in the village and the cafe at Longman's Farm Shop in Aston.
Morning, highly recommend The Bridge at weekends. Trust me you will not leave hungry and as much tea and coffee as you want. Been there about 4 times and never been disappointed. Also best value
