This describes a room that, thanks to the fabulous lottery news, may go from architect's plans to reality in as little as two years. A brand spanking new space created for our young people so that they will have somewhere safe, and fun, to hang out with their mates one night a week.
We don't have to wait two years though for the 'hanging out with their mates' bit because
a group of us, with lots of initial support from the Youth Federation and Cheshire East Youth
Service (and now Audlem Parish Council as well), are already working hard to get a youth club off the ground right now.
We have a launch evening taking place on Wednesday 8th July at the Audlem Baptist Chapel meeting room on Woore Road. Free barbecue and drinks plus some really imaginative crafty things to do, including the creation of a pop-up graffiti wall. More promotion of that to come on AOL so do look out for it.
We would really like to find some more volunteers to help us to run the new Audlem Youth Club going forward. In fact, to be blunt, we urgently need more help so that we can make it all run in the way that we would like it to.
We have a brilliant opportunity to build a new and thriving group to serve the village's swelling population and to create a different and innovative place for our young people to go to, both now, and when we move into the new building down the line.
We plan to run sessions on a Wednesday evening , 7pm – 9pm, with every 4th session taking place on a Friday and being run as a music night (playing, listening, dancing?). If you are interested in helping you would need to undergo a DBS check (CRB as was) and sign up for which ever sessions you think you can manage.
In an ideal world we would love volunteers to commit to at least two sessions per month, but we know how busy life can be and so we would happily talk to volunteers who could manage one evening per month.
We will be working with Year 7s and upwards (that's age 11 in old money!). We would also be delighted to talk to any Year 11 – 13s who would like to come along as young volunteer helpers.
We are trying to create the bones of a club so that the life can be breathed into it by the fantastic young people that want to come along and check it out.
