Although Wrenbury is not strictly within the orbit of AudlemOnline, we know that this item will be of interest to Audlem model railway enthusiasts.
On the 29th of January the Wrenbury & District model railway club celebrated its 3rd anniversary.
Their meetings are held every Wednesday evening, from 7pm to 10pm in the village hall Wrenbury and guests are always welcome. In addition to the club's N gauge and 00 gauge layouts, which lower from the hall wall draw-bridge style, they work on a portable N gauge layout to take to other events and clubs.
A new project for 2017 is a plug-on extension to the 00 gauge layout. The open end of this extension will have provision to accept any modular boards built to the NMRA BR standard. Modular boards are becoming more popular where individuals don't have the space for a full railway layout at home and for clubs where they can't build and store a large layout. These compact 48 x 20 inch boards are designed to link together both physically & electrically allowing large layouts to be created. You can view a fine example from Canada on this link. The club can advise you if you wish to build one of these modular boards and work on it at home.
The club holds 00 gauge running nights on the first Wednesday and N gauge running on the third Wednesday each month and members have access to a large library of railway books, magazines and DVDs.
Later in the year club members are planning to make their third visit to the home of Pete Waterman to see progress on his fabulous model railway.
Provisional plans have been made for an Open Doors event in July with offers of the 0 gauge layout Chelagasa Town plus visiting 00 and N gauge layouts. Last year's event which featured a radio-controlled live steam garden railway, was visited by Pete Waterman and drew enthusiasts from as far afield as Birmingham and Leicester.
