Woodpeckers

For the last 3 years by mid May we have been visited by a female woodpecker feeding from our feeder just outside the kitchen window, most days and many times a day, much to the alarm of the many tits that have to hastily move as she approaches.

This year she arrived as usual but for the last few weeks Mr woody has appeared instead.

Both are striking birds, the female with the bright red belly and the male with the red spot on his head.
