It is just amazing what you can see if you keep your eyes open. It was keen eyed Alfie Marshall who spotted this grass snake swimming just below Lock15.
It stayed around long enough to be obligingly photographed.
The Canal is a wonderful corridor of wildlife from plants to birds to Insects and of course reptiles and fish. The Audlem Wildlife & Ecology Group are carrying out a year long survey and one of the projects along the way is to prepare a monthly 'what to see' list for visitors.
So if you see something along the canal that catches your eye let us know. If it flies, crawls, swims or just waves about in the breeze we want to hear from you – you never know you might be the first person to see it this year.
Simply email me with 'What' it was, 'When' you saw it, and 'Where' (nearest Lock or Bridge number). If you are not sure what it's called take a photo, in fact if you can send a photo anyway all the better. If you would like to be kept up to date with what others have been seeing, let me know.
