Just to make people aware that I had a customer report that there were some door to door sellers operating in the village on Tuesday this week.
Whilst this is not crime in itself, when the resident refused to buy anything, the seller (a young man) became extremely abusive and threatening, to the extent that the resident was fearful for his personal safety and his property.
The incident was reported to the Police and I would encourage anyone else who has had a similar experience to do the same (using the non emergency 101 number). This was not the first time that door step sellers were operating in the village, as they were also around one day last week too. Audlem seems to be a popular target for these operators – so please keep an eye on elderly relatives and neighbours if you do see them about.
General advice for dealing with door sales persons from whom you do not wish to purchase, is to keep the conversation to a minimum, make an excuse quickly to close the door on the conversation, and respond with a firm, but polite, "no thank you".
