Greville Watts writes: "Many in the village will already be aware that a sub-group of the Parish Plan Steering Committee is preparing a Village Design and Landscape Statement. In brief, we are seeking local authority protection for those features of the parish which are most valued. We also wish to steer future development along lines which would protect our amenities and visible history.

"Much of the work on parts of the parish within settlement boundaries has now been completed. However we await the publication of the borough's own review of the central conservation area before making available a text and recommendations for discussion in the parish generally.

"Turning our attention to the landscape and the scattered development outside the village itself, we would welcome an input from anyone who values our countryside including, of course, our farmers who largely determine the way it looks. There are some pointers to agriculture being on the cusp of significant changes, for example:

Some improvement in milk prices, though perhaps only of interest to larger producers.

Rising prices for cereals.

Increasing demand for bio-fuel crops, both for liquid fuel and power station feed (miscanthus etc)

Will our fields look very different in, say, ten years' time?

"We are also anxious to preserve our mature trees, mainly situated along hedgerows, the canal and streams, and are investigating the extent to which these are protected by preservation orders. We would also welcome any news of new planting.

"Finally, is anyone aware of the locations of protected species of plants, birds, reptiles and animals which future development would need to take into account?
