Concern was expressed at Monday's parish council meeting by a number of local traders about the increasing use of the Buttermarket which could be hitting the village's shops.

Use of the Buttermarket has traditionally been restricted to charities with a strong link with the village. The traders stressed that they were not against the charities but were concerned by the more intense use in recent months which was becoming a problem.

There were also comments about occasional street traders but the parish council said they had no jurisdiction over street traders outside the Buttermarket and Cheshire East Trading Standards have also stated that it is not their responsibility.

It was agreed that the parish clerk would develop a draft proposal covering use of the Buttermarket for the council's February meeting.
