Over recent months, the Audlem Parish Plan team has been applying for funds from public bodies for a number of projects described in the 2010 Parish Plan.

There's been considerable success with over £50,000 accumulated so far. One of the first jobs to get underway will be providing an improved surface for approximately 600m of towpath from Bridge 80 southwards towards the village, a stretch which becomes very muddy and near impassable after rain.

Over the next few days, Audlem Online will cover other projects that are getting underway and are scheduled to be completed by the end of March. These include the installation of touch screen computers, with a program covering a range of local attractions, in Audlem Mill and the Overwater Marina.

A third project will be the launch of a new boat attraction that will ply the canal between Audlem locks and the Overwater Marina with trips further afield to Hack Green and on to Nantwich – more on this tomorrow.

In the meantime, British Waterways have issued the following notice to allow the towpath work to be completed in March. The towpath to be surfaced is to the right of this photo of the Overwater Marina.

Monday 28th February 2011 – Thursday 31st March 2011

Towpath refurbishment work will be taking place along this length of waterway to provide improved access into Audlem town centre.

Mechanical equipment will be in use on the towpath during the works which will prevent members of the public from using the towpath for the duration of the works.

There is no approved alternative route around the closure.

Work boats will be occasionally used on the waterway for the duration of the works, there may therefore be some minor delays of up 30 minutes for customers wishing to take their craft past the working area. Please follow instructions from the contractors' staff on site.

British Waterways apologise for any inconvenience caused during these refurbishments.
