The Town Hall and the Annexe

During the building of the Public Hall Annexe, the APHAx Committee became increasingly aware that the names of the different parts of Audlem Public Hall were becoming confusing. We found ourselves repeatedly referring to the "the Old Hall", "the New Hall", "the old Main Hall" and so on and so on.

We also wanted to recognise that the two constituent parts of the Public Hall are to a large extent physically separate and can operate independently of each other.

Many long-established Audlem residents have told us that "Town Hall" has been the natural name used when referring to the Public Hall.

So after much deliberation and heart-searching, and recognising that there will be some opposition to the proposal, the Audlem Public Hall Management Committee have formally decided

  • The Audlem Public Hall will remain a single charity, reporting to the Charity Commission and HMRC as a single entity, known, as before, as Audlem Public Hall.
  • The over-riding controlling Committee will still be the Audlem Public Hall Trustees through the Management Committee with the same charitable objectives and policies as before and operating a single bank account.
  • Audlem Public Hall will now comprise two operational divisions, trading as "Audlem Town Hall" and "the Annexe". Each will have its own Committee for day-to-day administration, although many participants will be on both Committees.
  • "Audlem Town Hall" will be what was, up until November 2017, the whole Public Hall, while "the Annexe" will be the newly constructed, lottery-funded part.
  • There is no intention to create an artificial competition for business, and there will be many occasions where users will wish to use parts of both Halls for their events.

Note to Duffy Boys' fans
In spite of temptation, the Committee decided not to call the Annexe "The Bit On The Side".
