Time is running out on a petition opposing a major housing scheme in Audlem.
A village petition opposing plans by Gladman Developments to build a 120-home estate on the edge of the village can be signed in the Co-op, Williams Newsagents, the Post Office and online.
But former Parish Council chairman Kate Down warned a parish meeting that time was running out on the petition with a sign-up deadline of May 30th.
She said that only about 60 people had signed up so far with a similar number of signatures online.
"It is a matter of great urgency that residents object to this development before the end of May deadline," she added.
The petition says:
We strongly oppose any speculative development proposal for Audlem put forward before Cheshire East Council issues its Local Plan. In particular, we oppose the recent Gladman proposal for a large development on land at Little Heath, Audlem. This proposal does not comply with the Village Design Statement (a document outlining Audlem's needs in terms of sustainable development for housing and employment), is not even listed in the SHLAA* and does not take into account the infrastructure or general ambience of the village. We strongly urge Cheshire East Council to stop this land grab across South Cheshire by refusing plans for large scale developments until their Local Plan is in place for guidance.

In a recent news item Kate Down appealed for as many signatures as possible in order to strengthen village opposition to the scheme.
She said: "I cannot stress enough the importance of getting as many responses as possible to the consultation and petition, so that Audlem's views are heard and taken into consideration."
The online petition can be signed here. Please note that although signing the online petition is free you may be asked to "contribute to costs". Simply close your browser window when asked to donate and your entry will be accepted without payment.
