More fun for train enthusiasts later this month when the Advanced Passenger Train (APT) is 'tilted' for the first time since the 1990s during a special event at the Crewe Heritage Centre.
The late addition to the 2013 events calendar is a must visit for any diesel railway enthusiasts as it features a number of locomotives on display including the industrial shunter 'Vanguard'.
But star of the show will be a demonstration 'tilting' of the APT, one of two units which have stood in sidings at heritage site in Crewe after being withdraw from service in the 1980s.
The Advanced Passenger Train was a revolutionary high-speed train that was scrapped in the 1980s shortly after its launch.
Teething problems with its tilt mechanism and a negative press forced the government to abandoned the project before it got off the ground.
The experimental technology was later sold to Italy's Fiat, who developed it for the Pendolino now used on the West Coast Main Line.
During a Modern Traction Gala on at Crewe Heritage Centre on October 19 and 20 there will be a demonstrations of the 155 mph locomotive's hydraulic tilt.
