THUMBS UP FOR AUDLEM FROM RN BOAT RALLY

All is now relatively quiet on the canal. The 40 boats visiting the Russell Newbery (RN) 2022 Boat Rally have departed.

A great time was had by the 80 members who seemed to patronise the village businesses, judging by the queues at the butcher and the chippy. One member who travelled from Norwich even managed to book a haircut with Elliot Steventon at EPS, as the picture shows.

The rally included a brewery visit, an away-day bus trip to mid-Wales, an Audlem village treasure hunt, assorted craft workshops, talks on Montgomery canal restoration and the Audlem Mill shop, technical sessions, a barn dance, a superb locally produced meal, local beers, and wines from our Co-op. Overall, an exceedingly busy four days.

All participants were hugely impressed by the Town Hall complex, and amazed that a small village had such facilities. Speaking of facilities, the public toilet was also highly praised!

Many people mentioned how friendly the Audlem-ites were.

Saving the best until last, the members stated that Audlem was the best venue we have had for our rally in its 26 year history. "Can we come back in four years?" was the unanimous request.

And finally, our thanks to everyone in Audlem who helped us make it such a success.
