Shropshire Police report another case of power cable thieves at work – the second in a week.

Around 300 metres of live copper cable worth £2,000 was ripped from electricity pylons overnight on the A41 near Albrighton.

It follows the theft of 1,000 metres of copper wire from Hinstock on the A41, near Market Drayton, earlier in the week.

These are the latest in a spate of similar thefts have been reported across Shropshire over the summer.

The public has been asked to alert the police over any suspicious activity around power lines.

North Shropshire Police spokesman Richard Ewels said: "With the public's support we hope we can find the people that are doing this."

Detective Inspector Sarah Wagstaff said it didn't matter if investigations found the reported suspects turned out to be genuine.

She said: ""Even if they look genuine, with protective clothing and fluorescent jackets, call the police immediately on 101 so we can check them out."

Anyone knowing the identity of the offenders could receive a payment by passing details to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
