For those uninterested, or bemused by the appeal of 30 men chasing an odd-shaped ball, there is an alternative tonight – the latest film shows at the Public Hall.

The Simpsons Movie will be shown at 5.00 pm – well before kick off in Paris at 8.00pm, our time. It is, of course, based on the TV series, with a very clever plot and non-stop irreverent humour. Suffice to say that Homer acts quite heroically, so much so that he rides off with Marge on a motorbike into the sunset! It has been very well received and should be great viewing for young and old alike.

Hairspray, showing at 7.30 pm, has also been hugely successful and is the third largest grossing musical in American cinema history. It's an adaptation of the Tony Award-winning 2002 Broadway musical of the same name. Set in 1962 Baltimore, the film follows a "pleasantly-plump" teen named Tracy Turnblad as she simultaneously pursues stardom as a dancer on a local TV show and rallies against racial segregation. The film stars John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken and Amanda Bynes and introduces newcomer Nikki Blonsky as Tracy Turnblad.

Tickets cost £2.50 for juniors and £5.00 for adults and are available at the Post Office, from Public Hall committee members, or you can pay on the door.
