Cheshire East businesses thanked for continuing to 'do the right thing'

Cheshire East Council has thanked businesses for their efforts to comply with Covid-19 restrictions after carrying out spot checks across the borough.

Over a two-week period, officers from the council's regulatory services team made visits to more than 1,000 retail and town centre businesses to offer them support and guidance to help keep their staff and customers safe.
They found that almost all (97 per cent) were fully compliant with the restrictions put in place by government, to control the spread of the virus.
Of those that were not, the council is pleased to report that these were for more minor issues such as having incorrect signage.

Councillor Mick Warren, Cheshire East Council cabinet member for communities, said: "Since the outbreak of the virus businesses have had to adapt their ways of working to comply with a range of new measures put in place to keep people safe.

"In the face of much disruption and uncertainty, it is extremely pleasing to see that such a high percentage of businesses in Cheshire East are fully compliant, and it gives reassurance to residents when visiting venues.
"Enforcement is our last resort and we will continue to work with businesses to help educate them and ensure they are compliant, so that they can continue to trade during these challenging times."

During the spot checks, officers, who were joined by colleagues from Cheshire police for some of the visits, were able to offer support to help resolve any issues where businesses were found to not be compliant.

Further visits and patrols will take place to ensure that the number of businesses fully compliant remains high.
