The Sunday XI began their friendly season in fine style with a 58 run victory over neighbours Woore.
John Eve lost the toss and Audlem were put in to bat on a slightly damp wicket and outfield. Initially wickets fell cheaply and Audlem were soon 28 for 3. However, John Wainwright, who opened and scored a fine 46, had two partnerships of 51, one with skipper Eve and the other with Zar Ahmed. These gave substance to the innings and Lyndon Woodcock chipped in with a breezy 13 at the end to set a good total of 140.
The match was won, however, by fine bowling from Chris Hardwick, who took 2 for 9 in six overs with Danny Thorburn taking 3 for 32 from his allotted eight overs. Woodcock again contributed with 3 for 16 from seven overs. Unusually there were nine Woore batsman dismissed by being bowled and only one catch in the innings. This shows how accurate Audlem’s bowlers were as Woore were bundled out for just 82.
Overall this was a good start to the season with our friends from Woore. The next Sunday friendly match is at home to Poppyfields on May 20th.
