Summer sail away at Corbrook

Residents of Corbrook Court nursing home in Audlem, part of the Morris Care Group, sailed away on a virtual gastronomic 'Escape to the Med' day filled with European food and a Captain's Gala Dinner.

The virtual cruises have been sailing through July and August across all of Morris Care's seven nursing homes in Shropshire and Cheshire. With the summer holidays now in full swing Morris Care wanted its residents to enjoy a virtual break away with friends and family and have a staycation with a difference.

The Mediterranean summer cruise began with a typical French breakfast – a delicious array of freshly prepared croissants and pastries served with hot drinks and juices. The morning continued with residents getting creative making cruise-style decorations and enjoying a range of deck games.

The next port of call presented a delicious lunch of Spanish tapas, a selection of hot and cold dishes including classic Serrano ham and Manchego cheese with an array of delicious desserts. The menu was taken outside in a relaxed Mediterranean style and residents enjoyed the afternoon sunshine.

Before the final stop in Italy, the Captain, Bert Molsom a resident from Corbrook Park and his second in command, Bert's son, took up the helm to meet every resident for a handshake and photo opportunity. Residents presented their boarding passes and were encouraged to dress for the occasion, if they wished, in evening attire.

Bert, resident at Corbrook Court, said: "I went on a cruise many years ago and I really liked all the different foods and very delicious they were too! I really enjoyed playing Captain for the day and it gave me an opportunity to wear my medals with pride once again."

A four course Captain's Gala Dinner followed, accompanied by speciality 'mocktails'. The menus for the day were all carefully planned by Paul Ratcliffe, Executive Chef, who has worked previously for Royal Caribbean Cruises.

"Days like today are a fantastic opportunity for the residents to spend time together and reminisce of fun filled summer holidays with family and friends."
