Green-fingered teams from Cheshire East Council have struck silver in two categories at the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park.

Working on home turf, Tatton Park's own team of gardening gurus have picked up a 'Silver Gilt' award for China 'Mother of Gardens,' an exhibit depicting a Chinesea courtyard with native species, including bamboo, a dove tree, hibiscus, buddleia and kiwi fruit.

The exhibit pays homage to the notable botanist EH Wilson who brought around 2,000 plant species back from a trip to China at the start of the 20th century.

And in the 'Back to Back' garden category, the people from the Connecting Cheshire Partnership, who are responsible for delivering superfast fibre-optic broadband across the Borough, took silver for their entry.

Designer Jan Leigh produced a stunning interpretation of the service's work across communities in Cheshire East. The exhibit features pulsating LED lighting and an eye-catching arrangement of illuminated pathways to represent the 900 miles of fibre optic broadband now rolled out to homes and businesses across Cheshire East, Warrington and Halton.

An added bonus for the design team was the interest shown by the BBC's gardening expert Joe Swift, who filmed an interview with Jan for transmission on Thursday in the broadcaster's daily coverage of the show, viewed as the Chelsea of the North.

Tatton's 'Mother of Gardens' is also expected to feature in the television coverage including an interview with head gardener Simon Tetlow by the celebrated television presenter Monty Don.
This is scheduled to go out today (Friday.)

The RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park runs until Sunday, with 29 themed gardens and more than 300 displays and exhibitors.
