To be precise, it's only a half Sturgeon, but was identified by a local fish fancier (Maurice Shenton – who once had one in his pond collection).
It seems probable that it had been captured and part eaten by an otter. There have been at least 3 sightings in that area as well as otter footprints in mud by the canal.
