The 1st XI travelled to Kerridge for the Cheshire Cricket Alliance Division 2 fixture. After last week's heavy defeat, they got back to winning ways with a seven-wicket victory in wet conditions. The match ball was sponsored by Geoff Seddon.
Skipper Chris Shenton won the toss and chose to bowl on a wicket that was soft and a little green. The decision proved to be a good one when Kemal Toraman, using the new ball well in a fantastic opening spell, claimed the first victim of the day with the second ball of the innings; a superb delivery that swung into and bowled the left-handed James Bolan. Things got better when Stuart Elkes claimed the wicket of Joe Blackburn with only 6 runs on the board. Soon afterwards Elkes had home skipper Shane Ward and Danny Brown back in the pavilion, leaving the scoreboard showing 15 for 4.
James Copper and Matt Waite steadied the ship a little until both were out with the score on 30, Cooper caught by keeper Paddy Leese becoming Elkes' fourth victim and Waite bowled by Toraman. Nathan Taylor and Paul Waite added 29 for the seventh wicket before Taylor was trapped lbw by Neil Humphries for 21. Waite followed him back to the pavilion two runs later, caught by Leese off Oli Burney's bowling, leaving Kerridge on 61 for 8. Jon Hanaghan and Joe Roddis took the score to 77, when Burney trapped Hanaghan lbw. The innings was over one run later when Burney took a sharp slip catch off Humphries' bowling to dismiss Graham Adamson.
Elkes finished with 4 for 19, Burney 2 for 9, Humphries 2 for 14 and Toraman 2 for 15.
Audlem's reply was delayed by heavy rain that threatened to wash the game out. When the innings did get underway, the visitors lost both Shenton and Andy Rothwell with the score on 1. Andy Capper and Rich Wilson took the score to 24 before Capper was out attempting to increase the run rate. Toraman joined Wilson at the crease and both batsmen played sensibly, leaving difficult balls and taking advantage of loose deliveries. Man-of-the-match Toraman eventually cut loose, providing a brutal display of batting. He hit several huge 6s and 4s as Audlem registered 79 for 3. At the end, Toraman was 34 not out and Wilson 18 not out. Hanaghan was Kerridge's only successful bowler, taking 3 for 20.
Audlem gained 20 points to move up to fourth in the table and Kerridge 4.
Next Saturday the 1st XI welcome fifth-placed Wilmslow Wayfarers to the Gorse Croft for a match sponsored by Brenda Heathcock. The match starts at 2.00 pm.
