1st XI round-up for 23/24 July

League – 23rdJuly  

The 1st XI travelled to Holmes Chapel the Division 2 leaders and came away with a creditable draw in a match sponsored by Neil Humphries. 

Audlem lost the toss and were asked to field first.  Chapel got of to a flyer, adding 63 for the first wicket.  Runs continued to flow with John Stimpson (49) Nick Lyons (31) and Martin Rebbeck (40no) all contributing.  Tight bowling from Oli Burney and Lyndon Woodcock bought about some control and four wickets for Neil Humphries ensured the Chapel innings came to an end in the 47th over with an achievable target of 204 to chase.
 
However Audlem never looked like getting near the total.  Andy Capper, Humprhies, Andy Rothwell and skipper Chris Shenton all fell cheaply to leave the visitors looking like a heavy defeat was on the cards.  However in form left hander Rich Wilson (32) Qhama Matthews (25 not out ) and Kemal Toraman (41) ensured Chapel were left frustrated in their victory chase with Audlem eventually batting out for a comfortable draw on 128 for 7.  Audlem gained 8 points to remain fifth and Chapel 14.

Knock Out Cup – 24th July

The following day the 1st XI travelled to Division 1 leaders Langley for the semi-final of the Cheshire Alliance Cup.   Having already beaten two Division 1 teams, it was cruel that Audlem had been given the toughest semi-final draw.  Langley won the toss and put Audlem into bat.  On a green track Audlem made a challenging 172 all out with Oli Burney and Kemal Toraman both contributing stylish half centuries.

It turned out to be a close game with Langley at one point struggling on 61 for 4.  The difference however turned out to be Langley's Australian Brent Cook, who smashed a stylish 57 to add to his 4 earlier wickets.  Langley eventually passed the Audlem total for the loss of 7 wickets with 5 overs to spare.  Neil Humphries, with 3 for 37 was the most successful bowler.

As they say, there's always next year!
