A New Half Term and Some Signs of Spring in the Air!

We have had some sun to welcome the children back to school this week (in between the rain!) and the lighter mornings have helped to give a hint of Spring weather. I hope this has given us all a 'spring' in our step as we begin another half term together!

As we begin a new half term I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of some of the ways you can continue to support your child in school:

Attendance and Punctuality:
It is important that your child attends school regularly to ensure they do not miss out on important parts of their learning. Punctuality makes a great start to the working day and we cannot stress how much children are affected if they arrive late. The feeling of uncertainty and worry often impacts throughout the entire first lesson. Please let us know if you are having problems getting your child to school on time.

Look Smart:
Wearing School Uniform makes a statement which helps unify all our learners. It says 'we belong, we have a shared identity, and we're ready to learn'. It's all about feeling smart right from our heads to our toes! PLEASE label your child's clothes! It makes a big difference when looking for lost property.

Supporting Learning:
Please ensure that children are well prepared by supporting with Home School activities. The key is little and often to help embed those important learning foundations. Our Home School Books are a vital part of the communication system, signing the weekly record and commenting on your child's reading or work at home will really help us work together to aim high for all of the children.

Keeping Healthy:
Children in school have regular access to clean fresh water to keep them hydrated throughout the day. Please ensure your child brings a named water bottle into school every day so they can access this. Thank you for your on-going support with this.

It was World Book Day recently and, to celebrate, the children started the day with a 'menu of poetic nourishment'. Throughout the morning the children became poets looking at the importance of words and their meaning. They then used these wondrous words to write and perform poetry – with some wonderful results! Our planned book sale after school today rounds off our World Book Day celebrations.

Amethyst class are enjoying a 'hands on' experience with Zoolab in their class this morning. The children have been thrilled with visiting animals to learn all about!

This week's Praise Book children are:
Mrs Maughan's Class – Freya Barnett
Mrs Hayward's Class – Spencer Wright
Mrs Richardson's and Mrs Burgess' Class – Tom Satchithananda
Mr Perry's Class – Martha Milburn
Mr Davies' Class – David Cottrell
Mrs Stoker's Class – Joe Jones
Mrs Bird's Class – Lily Grange
Congratulations to you all!

Tidy Team -The winning classes this week are Diamond and Amber classes – well done!
The winners of our Attendance Cup this week are Amethyst, Pearl & Ruby – well done!
School Dinner Menu – We will be serving week 1 menu during the first week back after the break.

Prayers to Share this week – Mrs Maughan's daughter, Pippa May, was born seven weeks early during the half term break. We pray for Mrs Maughan, her husband and Pippa May as they support each other over the coming weeks and months to help Pippa as she is monitored in special care.

Well done to Ciara Lloyd Beeston (Lime), Marleigh Matravers (Oak), Mikey Consterdine Wiggans (Rowan) and Amelie Varley (Alder) who are our new Team Captains for this half term. They began their duties in Praise Assembly today and I am sure they will inspire their teams to collect lots of Team Points this half term.

Look out for our new Super Spellers of the week from next week – a child from every class will be nominated by their class teacher for impressing them with how they apply their spelling knowledge in their independent writing work – I look forward to sharing the names of our first Super Spellers next week!

FASA
Thank you to everyone who returned a completed questionnaire to FASA before half term – your feedback is valued. A reminder that FASA's next event will be Film Night for all of the children on Wednesday 22nd March from 5pm – 7pm; please look out for more details about this very popular event coming soon.

FASA are also busy preparing for a special Easter Eggstravaganza on Wednesday 29th March. It will be held after school from 3.15pm – 5pm and will include a range of Easter activities (including an Easter Bonnet parade) and stalls including an exciting Easter Egg Hunt! We hope you will be able to join us for this.

ABC are holding a stay and play session on 17th March – please save the date!
ABC are also taking bookings for afterschool clubs, please pop in and chat to one of the team for further or contact ABC directly on 01270 748081.

Parent/Teacher Meetings
A reminder that these meetings will take place next Tuesday and Wednesday. Your child's new targets will be made available for these sessions. Appointment times have been sent out this week, please contact your child's class teacher if you have not yet booked an appointment. Arrangements for the postponed EYFS meetings will be sent out later this term.
Some of our Governors will be available to meet and speak to parents and carers during these evenings. These sessions are a chance for you to share your views and also to find out more about the important role Governors play in our school.

Nantwich Education Partnership – Internet Safety Training for Parents
Our Partnership have organised an Internet safety workshop for parents to take place on Tuesday 28th March from 6.30pm at Brine Leas High School. Please let our school office know if you are able to attend so we can let the host school know expected numbers. A letter with further information about this meeting has been sent out this week – please look out for this.

National Funding Formula Update
Following the protest against these proposals in Nantwich on Monday, the organiser, Laura Smith, has been contacted by Edward Timpson's office informing her that:
"Edward has arranged a further meeting with Nick Gibb to re-emphasis local residents concerns after the protest.
Would you be good enough to let me have any views/thoughts/ information that you could give Edward to pass onto Mr
Gibb in their meeting?"

If you wish to contribute your thoughts to this please send messages to Laura at: onetoonelearningcheshire@gmail.com
Laura is also organising a march in Sandbach on the 18th March at 11am. The Facebook link for this is: here

Finally
I met with the Chair of the Parent Forum this week to set the agenda for our next meeting. The meeting will be held on Thursday 23rd March from 7pm – 8pm in the school hall. Thank you to those parents who have suggested agenda items. Agendas have been sent out to all families this week.

The Forum is YOUR Forum, a chance to ask school about any areas of school life you are concerned about or wish to celebrate. Please send any comments about agenda items you would like to have discussed at this meeting into school. You can do this via the reply slip on the agenda, by email or by sending a note into school in your child's reading folder.

I look forward to seeing you there.
