Sometimes Words are just not Enough

I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all those wonderful and committed people in and around the village who have given their time, expertise and monetary contributions to help me in my support for The Kerry West Orphanage Project in Uganda.

This project is close to my heart as one of my friend's daughter, Kerry West, raises finances, educates and supports these children, who would otherwise be forgotten.

The Kerry West Orphanage Project was founded in 2009 following a trekking holiday that Kerry went on. The project currently supports over 100 children in the Lake Bunyonyi area. Many are orphaned due to Aids and others are under the care of the project because their parents cannot afford to look after them

They have had a rise in the number of children boarding at the Orphanage recently and they now have over 90 boarders! They desperately need to build more facilities for them including a larger dormitory, kitchen and a bathroom. Fundraising is ongoing.

Both Audlem WI and the Embroiderer's Guild have been knitting red jumpers to enable the children to have a school uniform, as well as collecting outgrown grey school skirts and trousers so that each child feels a sense of communal pride after the difficult start in life that many have had through no fault of their own.

These two organisations have also collected soft toys to enable all of the children to receive a Christmas gift, and they have also raised together the magnificent sum of £500 which will be an enormous help towards feeding the children, teaching them and building dormitories.

I have been fortunate enough to receive a further £320 from the donations collected by our three local churches for the 'Lent Lunches', which were divided between three charities – someone must have been smiling down on the Kerry West Project!

This money has also been matched by a very caring village individual, so a grand total of £620 will be winging its way to the orphanage. My deepest thanks go to our three village churches

These donations are becoming increasingly important as the situation in East Africa is now becoming more and more desperate as the famine takes hold and the children have had to start going without their breakfast of maize porridge for two days a week, so this extra money will help to purchase further maize flour for them.

This is a wonderful and caring village, and if anyone would like to sponsor an individual child and help support them through their life and education for as little as £5 a month please go to the website; here

https://www.kworphans.com

You will also receive a photo and information about your child plus an annual update on their progress – you could change a child's life forever for the cost of a weekly loaf of bread.
