Social and Technical History of the Bicycle.

Audlem History Society's next talk will take place at 7.30 pm next Thursday, 21st March in The Scout and Guide Hall.

The Speaker will be Matthew Jones who will be giving a talk on the Social and Technical History of The Bicycle.Matthew's talk will explain how The Bicycle evolved from its earliest form as a novelty for the aristocracy of late18th and the early 19th centuries, through to its role in social and political change and the rise and fall in its prosperity as a simple form of transportation during the 20th century.

Matthew is a cycling advocate and campaigner who will talk about the most efficient means of transportation ever invented.Audlem History Society hopes to have on display several interesting bicycles including The Bicycle on which Essex-based architect Neil Campbell set a new European cycle speed record of 149 miles an hour in September, 2018.

Whether you are interested in cycling along the local leafy lanes, enjoy racing in lycra or watching the Tour de France, there will be something in this talk of interest.
