Saturday 29th April

The next Short ARS on Saturday 29th April is Winterley Pool to Crewe Golf Club led by Jeanette Shenton:-

Distance 5.6 miles;Height gain: 41 metres

Meet: Audlem Public Car Park 08:30

Walk start: From the long lay-by next to Winterley pool. There are a number of parking places in the lay by the pool, however, please share cars as much as possible just in case the lay by is busy.

The post code for parking is CW11 4RS and is approximately 30 minutes from Audlem via the A500.

This is an almost flat walk from the village of Winterley near Sandbach with only 3 stiles that are in reasonable condition..

It goes through very pleasant countryside, mostly pasture, with some tracked sections, dogs will need to be on leads for a large proportion of the walk. We passed through 3 fields with quiet cows in them.

Some background Information:

Winterley is well-known to the coarse angling community as the Pool is a popular venue; its website contains pictures of anglers holding fish of gigantic sizes. It also has a Methodist brass band founded in 1938 and this may reflect a connection with Sandbach, where the Foden lorry factory had one of the finest British bands. The band has outlasted the closing of the factory with new sponsors and still competes at the highest level in Britain.

NB All walkers must have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, carry food and water to last for the entire walk and be suitably fit for the various lengths of walk.

Each walk is led by a nominated leader who will carry some first-aid equipment. The leader has the right to refuse to include in a group anyone who is felt not be adequately equipped.

Non-members of Audlem Rambling Society (ARS) are welcome to come on a walk but are expected to join ARS and pay the membership fee after a trial walk or two.
