Next Saturday's Short ARS walk is a pleasant 5 mile circuit of Rudyard Lake.

The walk is generally on good surfaces and from memory there are few if any stiles. There is a gentle ascent/descent of a few metres along the west side of the lake but apart from that the walk is pretty flat and if anyone is feeling lazy they might even be able to catch the miniature train back to shorten the walk slightly! Usually proviso re dogs in that there could be some livestock in fields.

Rudyard Lake is in fact a reservoir built to feed the Trent and Mersey Canal originally (subsequently also used to feed the Cauldon Canal I think). If anyone is interested you can read more information about the lake and its history here.

We will be parking at the carpark at the start of the railway and for those of you who use satnavs I am told the postcode is ST13 8PF. There is a café and toilet there but there were signs up loudly saying toilets were only to be used by patrons! However after about a 10 minute walk there are other public facilities (and another café).

If anyone is interested in reading about the miniature railway click here.

Meet 9.30 am Audlem car park, the drive is about 50 minutes to the start of the walk.

NB All walkers must have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, carry food and water to last for the entire walk and be suitably fit for the various lengths of walk.

Each walk is led by a nominated leader who will carry some first-aid equipment. The leader has the right to refuse to include in a group anyone who is felt not be adequately equipped.
