A reminder that today's Short-ARS (Audlem Ramblers Society) walk is along an attractive section of the Sandstone Trail taking in Rawhead and Bulkeley Hill.

It is indeed following the route of the inaugural Short-ARS walk three years ago and is a four-mile plus walk but with a number of short uphill sections which are reasonably well spaced out.

Underfoot conditions on the Sandstone Trail are normally better than on most paths after very wet spells albeit there are likely to be some muddy stretches to negotiate.

The route will be a figure-of-eight starting from the top of Copper Mine Lane (off the A534), heading off south back down the lane before crossing over to the Sandstone Trail passing the old copper mine. Then it's back northwards via Rawhead, the highest point on the whole trail from Whitchurch to Frodsham, with fine views over Chester and as far as Liverpool and the Welsh mountains.

After passing our parked cars, the second part of the figure-of-eight explores the woodland that makes up Bulkeley Hill with fine views eastwards across Cheshire to the Pennines and the top of the old railway that descends sharply from the waterworks on the hill. After descending we return southwards along a wide track to the starting point.

It rates as a 2-slippers on the Short-ARS scientific scale of difficulty and it's a 9.30am departure from Audlem car park this morning, Saturday 22nd February.
