Happy New Year – Welcome Back!

Happy New Year, I hope your Christmas was wonderful and 2017 has started well for you all.We have had a busy first week and a half back in school with all of the children returning to start new topics in their classes – I have been tremendously impressed with the energy and excitement in each class as the children have begun the term and I am looking forward to seeing how each topic develops over the coming weeks.

Each class teacher has sent out a class information letter about the work your child will be covering this term and children in Years 1-6 have also brought home individual target booklets celebrating what they have already achieved so far this year as well as outlining the targets they are currently working towards; I hope you find these useful.

This week's Praise Book children are:
Mrs Maughan's Class – Jack Bryan
Mrs Hayward's Class – Mia Taylor
Mrs Richardson's and Mrs Burgess' Class – Chloe Tew Goodwin
Mr Perry's Class – Alfie Marshall
Mr Davies' Class – Ruby Milburn
Mrs Stoker's Class – Jasper Smallwood
Mrs Bird's Class – Oscar Javens
Congratulations to you all!

We begin our new term with four new Team Captains. Rebecca Dutton (Lime), Sam Hassall (Oak), Connor Harthern (Rowan) and Jonathon Eaton Latham (Alder) are our new Year 6 Captains. I am sure they will do a terrific job leading their teams and that all of the children will be trying hard to earn points for their teams this term.
We also have two newly appointed Tidy Team Monitors in Year 6, Evie Byrne and Ciara Lloyd Beeston, who will be carrying out 'spot checks' throughout the week and meet to discuss their findings with me so the winning class for the Tidy Team award can be decided on each week.
Good luck everyone!

Tidy Team -The winning class this week are Emerald and Diamond classes – well done!
The winners of our Attendance Cup this week are Diamond, Ruby & Pearl- well done!
School Dinner Menu – We will be serving week 1 menu next week
Prayers to Share this week – We give thanks for the time shared with loved ones during the Christmas
break.

FASA
FASA will be holding their next meeting on Wednesday 18th January at 2pm in the school hall – please come along and get involved if you can. Thank you to all of the families who have donated to our Rag Bag Bin. Remember, any old clothes, shoes or covers that are donated are converted to money for school
resources – your support with this is much appreciated. Please put all donations (in bags) in the Rag Bag Bin at the main entrance gate.

ABC Childcare
A reminder that ABC are once again working with school to offer a range of after school clubs for children at our school this half term. Please call ABC on 01270 748081 for more information. These clubs will run alongside clubs offered by school. Letters about the clubs on offer both at school and at ABC were sent out earlier this week.

Diary Dates for Spring Term
This term's diary dates were sent home last Friday and are on our website (in the newsletter section) for your information. As you can see there are many events planned for the term. Further information about some of these events will be sent home closer to the time.

Nantwich Education Partnership – Internet Safety Training for Parents
Advanced Notice – Our Partnership have organised an Internet Safety evening for parents to take place on Tuesday 28th March from 6.30pm at Brine Leas High School. We will be sending out a letter with further information about this meeting later this term – please look out for this.

Winter Weather
Despite the unusually mild weather we have experienced over Christmas, the weather over the coming term is likely to become colder and there has been a distinct drop in temperature on several days since we have been back in school with further cold weather forecast over the coming days and weeks. As we begin the new term, please ensure that the children are suitably dressed for the playground as it is important that they get outside during breaks. Hats, scarves and gloves, as well as a warm coat are necessary. We would also ask that on snowy days children come to school in boots and bring a change of shoes to wear inside so they are able to have fresh air breaks without getting their indoor shoes wet. Please ensure that all clothing is clearly marked with your child's name.

As you know, we make every effort to keep the school open during snow and ice weather conditions but sometimes I have to make the decision to close the school for the safety of your children. In the event of a school closure local radio stations will be contacted and we will also aim to put a message on our school website and onto the message board on our school phone system. A text message will also be sent out to all parents on our Parentmail database. It is imperative in icy conditions that we all work together and are responsible for our own safety in the ice and snow and for the safety of children when they are walking into school. I would like to remind you of school's gritting plan.

In the event of icy weather our Caretaker, Mrs Naden, will grit identified pathways and parents and children must use these routes for their own safety. There will be a gritted path from the main gate to the main entrance and around the perimeter of the main building up to the Highfield Drive entrance. Please note the Heathfield Road playground entrance gate will remain locked on these occasions. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you in advance for your support and understanding during the remaining winter months.

Winter Warmer Special Lunch – Thursday 19th January
As the weather becomes colder, Mrs Robinson-Cartlidge and Mrs Gavin in our school kitchen have planned a special 'Winter Warmer' lunch next Thursday with many of the children's favourites on the menu to keep us well fed to brave the elements! Letters have been sent home this week regarding this special lunch and this letter is also available on our school website. I hope many children will take the opportunity to enjoy these Winter treats next week.

Waterbottles
Drinking water throughout the day helps to hydrate us and keep our brains working. We encourage all children to drink fresh water during the day to help with this. Children are to bring water only in these bottles. We have water points throughout school for water bottles to be regularly refilled. Please help us with this by ensuring your child has a named water bottle with them each day.

Reception New Starters September 2017
Do you have a child, or know a child locally, who is due to start school in September 2017? Remember the deadline for admission applications is this week – Sunday 15th January. Parents and carers can apply for a place at our school via Cheshire East Council's website here.

Parent View
Many of you will be aware of the online questionnaire called Parent View, which parents and carers can use to give their views about school at any time of the school year. To register and complete the short questionnaire at http://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk you simply need to register your email address and create a password. Once your login has been activated, it takes a few minutes to choose answers to 12 short questions about the school, such as the quality of teaching and whether you would recommend the school to other parents.
Please remember, you can give your opinion of school through Parent View at any time during the school year. At the time of an inspection, you can refresh or resubmit your views and the facility will overwrite your previous response so that only one 'view' for each parent, per school, is held.

Finally
As we begin our new term I would like to thank the many parents and relatives who have contacted me with feedback about our wonderful Christmas events and about school life in general. We really value all of your feedback. By continuing to work together we can ensure our school continues to be a wonderful place to be.
R Jewitt
