Readers will recall that we published a distress letter from Jake to Santa Claus about the problems that his aged granny in Audlem was having in sending him his Chsistmas presents, given the lack of a local Post Office. .

This was found earlier today by Jake's mother, who had no idea that Jake had written to Santa.

Dear Jake

I was very sad to hear about your grandma's problems now Audlem's Post Office is closed. Unfortunately Rudolph and his team are already struggling under the weight of parcels so are unable to help all the children whose grandparents' Post Offices have been closed this year.

I have tried to speak to the Post Office but they only seem concerned with their office Christmas parties and plans to go skiing or to the Caribbean in January. Mother Christmas (who is a very wise woman) says they would soon take a bit more notice if it was their own local Post Office that was closed down.

Rudolph asked me to tell you that the reindeer are VERY cross with the people at the Post Office for being so bad at organising a replacement Post Office for Audlem. They have gone on strike and are refusing to deliver any Christmas presents to Post Office managers until they get it sorted out. They whispered that just for this year they will carry your grandma's presents to you but please keep this top secret as they can't do it for everyone.

I am very sorry that I can't do more to help, but I am writing again to some friends in high places in the hope that they can persuade the Post Office to get a move on.

Merry Christmas

Love from Santa Claus xx
