Audlem Saints U10s soccer team had a busy weekend with both a cup semi-final and their last league game to play. First up on Saturday was the cup semi-final against Cheshire Blades, a team from a lower league but one that put up a very spirited show. The first period was pretty tight. Audlem perhaps had more of the ball but struggled to find the finishing touch.

Right on the stroke of half time though, a long range strike was superbly tipped onto the bar by the Blades goalkeeper but he could do nothing to prevent the follow up shot. The goal seemed to settle the Saints and after the break the flowing football returned. Four goals were added without reply to set up a Cup Final in May. Saints won the Cup last season and will be anxious to do the same this time around.

Sunday's opponents were Boro Boys in the final league game of the season. Saints worked hard in this one and ground out an unspectacular but efficient 2-0 win. Having lost 2 games in succession early in the season, the challenge for Saints was to get as many points as possible from the last 9 games and hope that league leaders Boca slipped up. Audlem rose to the challenge winning 8 and drawing 1 of those 9 games but Boca Juniors held their nerve and pipped Saints to the league title by just one point.

This was Saints' 4th runner up spot to go along with 3 Champions medals from 8 competitons. A remarkable record.

All that remains before the boys turn their hand to cricket, tennis and surfing is the Cup Final (against, inevitably, the League Champions Boca!) and a one day tournament, "The Community Shield".
