Saints go top with late goal flurry

Audlem Saints U8s football team played Bocca Juniors Eagles on Sunday. Both sides went into the game unbeaten and so it was no surprise that it was an evenly balanced game. Both sides played good football and some of the one touch passing, at speed, was the best we have seen for some time.

Clearcut chances were difficult to create and the first two periods passed without a goal for either side. Audlem had hit the post and had a couple of long range efforts saved but with only a few minutes left it was still 0-0. A defensive mistake by Bocca presented Audlem with the ball in an advanced position. Unselfish and intelligent play worked the ball across to an unmarked player who smashed home to give Audlem the lead.

Almost immediately, a goalmouth scramble led to another Audlem goal to secure the points. With almost the last kick of the game, a good individual run and shot gave Audlem a third goal. A solid 3-0 win to leave Audlem on top of the table having won four from four.
