Audlem Online has now received a response from the Postal Review Panel. This august body seems to be part of the Royal Mail and has the onerous responsibility, it appears, of batting away complaints about the organisation.

They say:

I am sincerely sorry for the problems you have experienced. I can assure you that I have thoroughly reviewed your complaint and I am now in a position to respond.

On receipt of your complaint, I viewed your letters and and responses sent to you by Royal Mail. I believe that the correspondence you have received from Royal Mail has fully explained the situation and in no way tries to shy away from the issue.

I fully understand your concerns regarding identify theft. (We never raised that issue – we raised simple theft!) However, I have no evidence to suggest that the security of the mail was compromised over the Christmas period. If you are aware that you have not received any items, I would advise you to complete a P58 (Lost, Damaged or Delayed Inland Mail Report a Fault and Claim Form).

I understand that you remain dissatisfied with the position of Royal Mail in regard to this matter. However, I can add no further to what has already been said and believe you have received exemplary customer service.

There's a couple of other technical paragraphs in the letter and a footnote that says: Postal Review Panel is part of Royal Mail Group.

We are relieved to hear that taking over a month to reply to a letter of complaint; refusing to comment on the marquee where our mail was dumped; taking forty two days for post to cross from one side of Audlem to another; losing numerous items of mail, cheques and court papers, now adds up to 'exemplary customer service'.

It makes you realise that all is good in the world and, reassuringly, Royal Mail has maintained its reputation as one of the finest, if not the finest, postal services in the world and all our Christmas mail arrived before the turkey was carved.

If you have lost any mail, we suggest you complete a P58 (Lost, Damaged or Delayed Inland Mail Report a Fault and Claim Form) or P58LDoDIMRaFaCF for short.
