In a desperate attempt to keep his post after yesterday's April Fool shenanigans – see our grovelling apology story posted just after noon yesterday – the editor will be using March's record readership figures in his defence at a crunch Audlem Online webteam meeting on Monday.

Last month, 26,660 readers went on to Audlem Online, that's an average of 860 readers a day. The figure was 48% up on March 2010.

A big thank you to all who have helped make this progress possible by sending in stories and photographs, organising the events we report on, contributing to the Chatbox and using the Puzzles section and Buy/Sell.

For those searching yesterday for the one true story on Audlem Online, look no further than the report of the presence of a virus in the Sudoku program. The Head of the Audlem Online Puzzles Division, who created all the puzzles on the website, was able to insert a harmless change to the program for the day which will have amused and annoyed regular users in possibly equal numbers! The 'virus' was, of course, entirely harmless.

BBC Radio Stoke sent their broadcasting van to Audlem yesterday morning and covered a number of our 1st April stories in a wide ranging interview that covered prescription charges in England and Scotland, British Summer Time and the Royal Mail.

We are now keeping our fingers crossed that the people of San Marino, Andorra, Wales, Scotland, the Health Department in London and, in particular, Moya Greene, the chief executive of the Royal Mail, all have a sense of humour!
