I've recently been seeing ravens near the conifer wood at the back of Daisy Bank and hearing their deep croaking sound. Have they set up home in the village?

Has anybody else heard them? And are these birds protected by law as it would be a shame if they were mistaken for a crow and shot like most farmers do. Are they supposed to be very acrobatic when in courtship?

Does anyone know more about these birds?

Celia Bloor adds on 31st August: "We thought we heard one around Kinsey Heath earlier in the year. When flying I couldn't distinguish it from a crow but it certainly had a much lower croak. Haven't heard it for a few weeks now so perhaps it has moved to Daisybank. I also heard it yesterday while in a garden in Heathfield Road."
