Ramblers' Report for Saturday 28th Oct

Audlem Ramblers did well to find a walkable route on Saturday!
In total there were 17 souls on the Short Walk based on Market Drayton.

Starting in the free car-park by the Swimming Pool/Gym (alternative pay-parking is available closer to the town centre) Kate Down led us on a comparatively "dry" 7 mile route.

The route started on the leafy suburbs (Dalesland?) leading via a passable but unmade track to views of Buntingsdale Hall. This historic house was built in the 1700s, was an RAF HQ (presumably because of its proximity to Tern Hill just across th A41!) for most of WW2, had a large housing estate built on part of the estate post-war, and seems to offer accommodation.

Then over a footpath almost surrounded by "Elephant Grass" – Miscanthus x Giganteus. It is primarily used to manufacture paper, handicraft articles, charcoal, oil and bio-fuel.

The next land mark was a busy MD Golf Course (it was Saturday), followed by the Four Alls (no, we didn't), over the road and down to Tyrley locks, and then passing a curious canalside "sculpture" and back to Drayton along the towpath.

Some hardy types on returning to Audlem then enjoyed a short debrief in the Shroppie Fly.
