"What I would like to see in 2007" – a new series starting today with Helen Chantry

Today, as we are in the midst of the Christmas season and the New Year is looming, Audlem Online is starting a series on what local people would like to wish for, or see, in Audlem in 2007. A selection of people have been asked for their thoughts but if you would like to contribute, a new Forum will be started and a further selection of comments from that will be included in news stories. We start the series with Helen Chantry of St James' Church.

"My wish for Audlem and the surrounding area in 2007 is for individuals who are lonely to find friendship.

For young people not to be assumed to be 'up to no good' just because they gather in a group.

For older people (over 20) to smile and say hello to young people.

For the churches to continue to work well together."

"For the Countryside: a continuing effort to support Cheshire farmers by shoppers and supermarkets

For the community to remain a vibrant village by each of us supporting local businesses wherever we can. It never ceases to amaze me what you can buy in this village – tucked away in one shop or another. And if some prices are a bit more, think of the petrol money and time saved and your environmental footprint! There is, too, the opportunity to meet others."

"However, we are not an isolated community, but interconnected with people across the world, so my wishes for 2007 cannot remain within Audlem and the surrounding area. How can I live in comfort when I know there are others living with no fresh water, little food and few opportunities for education*?"

"Therefore I wish for a fairer sharing of resources around the world. Again we have a part to play in this, not just supporting development work, but ensuring that workers across the world get a fair wage for their labour, by paying a fair price."
