Professor Atom for West End

Visitors to the Carnival and Audlem Transport Festival will be familiar with Professor Atom and his intergalactic rocket which once graced a well-known local personality's roof down Green Lane. For years, it was the first sight visitors saw as they approached Audlem from the south.

Amazingly, and not before time some might think, Professor Atom is about to hit the big time with his very own West End Musical. Impresario Cameron MacTavtosh read last month's Cheshire Life article about Billy Gibbons and his alter-ego Professor Atom and decided immediately the character had what it takes.

Modern

In what is essentially a modern version of 'Around the World in Eighty Days', Professor Atom makes it in just Eighty Minutes. It appears the adventures of Phileas Fogg are seen as old hat by the internet generation while rocket propelled Professor Atom, armed with iPhone and regular Twitter accounts of his adventures, hits the nail on today's heads.

Billy Gibbons is over the moon – just as Professor Atom will be just before the interval – and says: "I've even been asked to sing a couple of numbers in the show, which is mind-blowing. Even better, they are replacing Phileas Fogg snacks with Professor Atom crisps and tortillas. While I'll have to skip on the smokey bacon ones being a vegetarian, the flavours I've been asked to test are out of this world."

Rehearsals start today at the Wyndhup Theatre and tickets are available with a special offer for AudlemOnline readers. Simply email April1@audlem.org with your name and address and you will be amongst the very first to see the show.
