Production with a difference

The Methodist production began its five-night run last night and a very different show it is.

Using seven popular game shows from the world of TV, The Bible Bounce raises biblical knowledge – it's the Bible's 400th anniversary this year – with wit and a truly original style.

The cast are young, the choir on song and the special effects simply sizzle with sophistication. Glance upwards and, amongst the technical team, there's a row of computers at work throughout the two-hour performance. These productions are getting ever more stylish as each year passes.

The advertising break in the Who Wants to be a Millionnaire sketch would be a Youtube sensation if only someone could get their hands on that film! Would we at Audlem Online dare show those ads, we wonder. There's only one answer – of course we would!

Seven quiz hosts handle their parts with aplomb, capturing the character of their originals from the small screen from the Queen of Mean to the contemptuous sneers of Paxo at his worst. The eager young contestants in each scene, and the not quite so young promotees from the choir in Bluff, extract the most from their lines while up on screen the timing of faux-TV sound and vision never stalls.

With a script by Nancy-May Goodwin and music by Naomi Newman – the choir and musicians have a role in every sketch with their singing as fine as ever – the show sparkles.

It's a cast of over twenty, all with speaking parts, and the choir numbers forty. With musicians and the behind-the-scenes team added, there's well over eighty enthusiastic participants involved in this fine production.

Tickets, as always, are in very short supply but if you have one, you are in for a treat. If you can't get your hands on one, keep an eye out – just in case that film clip does fall into our hands!
