There was an interesting article in The Times on Thursday saying nearly £8million in compensation payments related to potholes have been paid out by local councils over the past two years.
The article said that as central grants had been cut, many councils have failed to maintain roads and repair potholes resulting in costly compensation claims – and, of course, reducing the funds available to repair the roads!
Many councils have admitted, the article said, that road maintenance is one of the first services to be cut when they are looking for savings.
We understand quite a few claims were submitted to Cheshire East after the problems with a particularly nasty pothole surrounding a drain at Hatherton emerged before and over Christmas with both tyres and wheels damaged on a number of vehicles.
How are these claims progressing, we wonder. Has the council responded to your claim as yet? And have you any indication that the claim will be met? We look forward to hearing from you.
