Polecat in the Co-op!

Regular readers may have spotted our story last week that mentioned a polecat that slunk into the Co-operative food store in Audlem a few months ago.

We added, somewhat wishfully, that it was heading for the chicken counter - polecats have a great liking for chicken and are infamous raiders of poultry coups.

Somewhat doubting the authenticity of this reported, and very unusual, sighting, we asked if anyone had seen the polecat on the day in question.

We are very pleased to report that the story is true, and a full description of the event has been provided by an eye witness.

To our delight, the polecat was indeed heading for the display of chickens. This was, however, simply because the Co-op's chickens are displayed in Aisle 1 and the polecat was shopping in an orderly manner, aisle by aisle.

Unfortunately, as far as we and the witness are aware, a photograph was not taken on the day and the polecat in our photo is unlikely to be the animal in question.
