Parking fines dished out

Yesterday there were signs of resentment – and that is putting it mildly in one instance – amongst some of the victims of a traffic warden's, or parking attendant as they are now known, visit to the village car park. A number of people, including at least one that had just slipped briefly into the Medical Centre, and another on a visit to the fish & chip shop, received £30 fines, or £60 if not paid in the next 14 days.

From 21st January this year, Crewe & Nantwich Borough Council, on behalf of Cheshire County Council, took over responsibility for enforcing parking, loading and waiting restrictions in Crewe & Nantwich from Cheshire Police. Their Parking Attendants now enforce on-street parking as well as in the Borough's car parks.

Those that were caught will be pleased to hear that illegal parking on the street is no longer classed as a criminal offence but has become a 'civil contravention'. The Council say the parking attendants will issue Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) to any vehicle parking illegally.
