Despite the weather, no, the winter weather added to a special evening as artists appeared from as far North as Stockport and as far South as Newport, and the audience came in their tens from Audlem- The Chillinight was on!

Jack Marshall opened the evening to a packed Chiilinight venue, the Audlem Scout & Guide Hall, with his band, Kirsty Marshall and bass man Mark Jones, setting the scene for the evening's music.

The band was joined by Janey Marshall on fiddle and Joe Brown on cahon for two well known Irish numbers 'Tell my ma' and 'Whisky in the jar' to really get the audience engaged in some serious hand clapping and foot stamping.

Jack finished his set with his latest video release 'Blue Moon' which has featured on AudlemOnline and can be found on YouTube. For this the line up extended to one of the stars of the video Alfie Jack Marshall with his Ukelele and vocals – you needed to be here to see that performance.

Annabel

Next up was Annabel with a superb performance of the 'Cup song' with nothing more than the floor, a cup, clapping and stunning vocals at whatever age, never mind her tender years. The performance had everyone transfixed and we look forward to seeing her playing keyboard at the next Chillinight.

Delicious chilli

From here on the delicious chilli's were made available- and it all went!!, with all the ingredients sourced locally from Oxtail & Trotter, the Fat Pigeon, including the locally made Snape's French sticks, to make mild to hot traditional Chilli (one with organic dark chocolate!), beans and vegetarian option.

Sammi Elston

On with the music and Sammi Elston took to the stage. Sammi is a talented songwriter and tonight she treated the audience to a performance of her works. Sammi is the real deal in terms of female singer songwriters, great vocals and stage presence she will certainly go places, oh yes, that starts soon as she leaves her native Newport to head for the Big Apple, good luck and our best wishes with that.

Sammi will be appearing at the Lord C soon, so watch out for that one, and of course the Audlem Music and Arts Festival in May.

Heidi Browne

A little closer to home Heidi Browne and her band, Joe Browne on percussion and the music legend that is Colin Browne on bass, travelled up from Market Drayton. Heidi has really pulled together a distinctive sound and performance that only comes from years of hard work playing the pubs and clubs. Here again tonight a stunning set that had the audience wanting more.

Dave Nettleton

Well, if you had thought at that point you had seen and heard great music, up to the stage one Dave Nettleton. Dave's vocal is distinctive and ranges through the emotions from a softness his presence belies through to the strong hard vocal we are familiar with.

Now he had everyones attention, he introduced Kel Brammer and we had the Folkwits on stage. The set culminates in the Mumford & Sons 'Little Lion Man' that you would swear the Folkwits owned if you didn't know better. Tonight's performance on stage is so far removed from those early days, songs that are interpreted with two distinctive vocals that intertwine effortlessly and dance around the lyrics with a passion.

Darren Poyzer and Kevin Farrell

Now we could feel the love in the room, to be fair a lot of little ones dragged parents away, but no one wants to miss Darren Poyzer and Kevin Farrell here in Audlem, I heard parents bemoaning the fact that they had to leave early and that it wasn't fair! DP and Kevin, who incidentally made the short trip from Stockport to entertain us at the Chillinight, really enjoy playing here and tonight was no exception.

Joined by Alisdair Grant McKenzie, for his second appearance this evening (he was also in the Jack Marshall Band at one point), in what can only be described as a mix of well rehearsed and impromptu jamming modes, rocked out Hawkwinds 'Hurry on Sundown' as only Poyzer & Farrell could interpret it, followed by some audience participation with Thunderclap Newmans 'call out the instigator', because, as usual, "somethings in the air", a Chillinight we had!
