Having recently been awarded Inland Marina of the Year 2024 by the The Yacht Harbour Association, Overwater Marina & Touring Park, has now been announced as a finalist in the Marketing Cheshire annual awards – in the hotly contested Camping, Glamping and Holiday Park of the Year category.
The prestigious awards celebrate the people and businesses behind Cheshire and Warrington’s tourism sector which contributes 3.41bn to the region’s economy and attracts more than 50 million visitors every year.
Organisers Marketing Cheshire said judges had to sift through a record number of entries for the awards which will see the winners crowned at a glittering ceremony at Chester Cathedral on Thursday, March 6, 2025 – the second year in a row the spectacular venue is hosting the esteemed event.
Overwater, opened in 2010 with its holiday park journey beginning in 2011 when owner’s Janet, Angus & Richard Maughan added five Caravan and Motorhome pitches to the marina’s offering. In 2017, a small touring park of fully serviced pitches was developed, and the family were astonished at the popularity of Cheshire as a short stay destination. In 2021 Janet & Angus created Lakeview, their spacious seasonal touring park, and added four luxury bespoke railway themed glamping wagons. Overlooking the lakes and sited just yards away from the old GWR railway cutting, which was disused in 1967, these are proving to be very popular.
Janet says, “whilst the average distance travelled to our site is around 20 miles, drawing customers from areas like Chester, Shrewsbury, Stoke-On-Trent and Crewe and Nantwich, we have also welcomed visitors from as far afield as Scotland, the southwest and even Europe. It’s fabulous to see so many people discovering and enjoying what Cheshire has to offer.” Janet and Angus are also especially keen to point out that Overwater’s success is a team effort. Angus believes that “what makes the business special for us and our customers alike, is the team we have here – they create the fabulous warm welcome that our guests value and are what makes this business such a success.”
