Celebrating World Book Day and More!
We had a Teaching and Learning Review in school on Monday. This review helps us to evaluate how well school is doing. I am delighted to report that the outcomes of this review were very positive.
The review was carried out by a visiting Headteacher and he reported that:
This is another clear indicator of how far our school has come and is testament to the hard work of staff, Governors, parents and children.
Yesterday saw an amazing array of costumes enter our school as we all celebrated World Book Day together. Each class dressed up to match their class book or theme and we had a special World Book Day parade with children (and staff) sharing their ideas and work as part of our celebrations.
The children also had special Reading Buddy sessions with children from different classes where they shared some of their reading and talked about the books they really enjoy.
It was a wonderful way to celebrate reading in our school – thank you to Mrs Heathcock for organising the day and to all the children and parents for their wonderful contributions to the day.
On Tuesday, Amber Class enjoyed a visit to Lower Moss Wood Nature Reserve as part of their work on Minibeasts. The weather was fantastic for this outdoor visit and the children enjoyed a variety of learning activities such as looking at natural habitats, pond dipping and identifying different pond life.
They all arrived back at school full of exciting stories from their visit; here are a few of the things they had to say:
"I thought it was really good and fascinating, it's amazing that all of those animals live there. We went pond dipping and the water was extremely cold!" Matthew
"I had never seen a fox before; I was amazed that he was not shy!" Maisy
We ended last week with Amethyst class welcoming their parents to their Literacy Coffee Morning. They shared lots of their work and it was great to see so many parents joining their children in their learning experiences. The children certainly enjoyed sharing their Literacy session with their visitors!
Our netball team were in action again yesterday playing against Weaver Primary School.
They played really well and won the match with a super 6-0 score line! What a tremendous team display!
Congratulations to our school football team who proudly represented our school last
Friday in the Crewe and Nantwich Indoor 5 a side regional finals. It was an extremely close competition and the team drew all of their matches against Hungerford, Leighton and St Anne's schools to finish in joint second place overall. This is a fantastic achievement and we are all very proud of them.
The next FASA fundraiser will be a special Easter event on Thursday 3rd April. It will be held after school from 3.15pm – 5pm and will include a range of Easter activities and stalls including an exciting Easter Egg Hunt! We hope you will be able to join us for this.
Date for your diary! FASA will be holding a 'Black and White Glamour Night' at Audlem Public Hall. This will be on Friday 9th May from 7.30pm – 12pm. Please look out for further details about this event over the next few weeks.
Thank you to all of the families who have donated to our Rag Bag Bin. Remember, any old clothes, shoes or covers that are donated are converted to money for school resources.
Messy Mornings continue to be a great success at ABC. Here's a brief update from Lynsey Taylor:
"What a lovely week we have had, welcoming spring to ABC. During our messy morning (which is every Monday at 9.30am), the children decorated pots, planted beans and cress seeds and played with baked beans! The children enjoyed the story Jasper's Beanstalk which was read out by our teacher Kirsty Bailey.
"The children at the out of school club have enjoyed eating pancakes and the lighter evenings playing outside. We have seen more children attend our breakfast club which is great. However, we would love to see more new faces and ad hoc bookings are very welcome. Contact Lynsey on 01270 669050 to find out more or to book a place."
I have been experiencing significant problems with my email this week and although this should be rectified shortly, I would like to remind all parents and carers that if you do contact me via email and do not receive a reply within 48 hours, please either resend the email or contact by phone to ensure I do receive your message. Many thanks.
