Before heading down to London for the Queen's Speech and the State Opening of Parliament last week, I attended a meeting with Cllr Michael Baynham to discuss the concerns of students from Winsford High Street Community Primary School.

These students, who recently visited the Houses of Parliament, raised a number of queries regarding the regeneration of Winsford Town Centre during the question and answer session. Cllr Baynham and I discussed action on a number of initiatives including; future improvements to the subway which runs under the A54 and pressing the council for action on regeneration in respect of the shopping centre.

Last week was extremely exciting in Westminster as parliamentarians received the Queen for the State Opening of Parliament. This 500 year old tradition forms an intrinsic part of our democracy and provides a reminder of the unity of Parliament's three components: the Sovereign, the House of Lords and the House of Commons.

The Queen's speech which is read out by Her Majesty in the Lords' chamber outlines the Government's programme of legislation and policies for the next twelve months.

This year the Queen's speech focused upon a number of key infrastructure areas essential to the prosperity of the UK. I was very pleased to hear the Queen reference the Digital Economy Bill and the commitment to enable every household in the country to have access to fast broadband with a minimum universal service obligation of 10 Mbps.

Broadband connection in Eddisbury is one of the most often complained about things in my inbox and I regularly raise issues with BT, Connecting Cheshire and Ofcom.

If you would like to receive updates about broadband in Cheshire, please email my Parliamentary Assistant Guy de Vito (devitoga@parliament.uk) who will add you to the database. Improving connectivity in Eddisbury has posed a considerable challenge and I am glad that the Government has seen fit to include it in the speech.

I am hopeful that the Neighbourhood Planning and Infrastructure Bill will strengthen neighbourhood plans in Eddisbury. I have already met with Brandon Lewis to discuss predatory planning applications in Eddisbury which are being submitted against adopted neighbourhood plans.

This week, following the state opening of Parliament, parliamentary colleagues and I have debated the Queen's speech and reflected upon how it has been received across the country.

Back in the constituency I was privileged to officially open the head office of ITS Technology in Saighton. This company is an example of a high-tech business successfully operating in a rural area, and it was great to hear about the solutions that ITS can offer to local businesses and residents wanting superfast and ultrafast connections.

Finally, I would like to pay tribute to the Invictus Games Foundation which has provided hope and inspiration to so many armed forces personnel and veterans.

Parliamentarians held a reception in the Palace of Westminster to welcome back our heroes who performed so brilliantly in the recent Invictus Games in Orlando. Our boys and girls brought back quite a medal haul and it was an honour to celebrate their achievements with them.
